Wind farm protest takes to the skies

PROTESTERS against a 23-turbine wind farm between Kiltarlity and Drumnadrochit yesterday flew a tethered air balloon at turbine height to drive home the size of the development.
The large balloon was raised to 149.5 metres — the proposed height of the Druim Ba wind farm at Blairmore Forest — by opponents Druimba Sayno.
Co-ordinator Lyndsey Ward hopes it will demonstrate to local residents and politicians how large the turbines would be and how the development would impact on the wider area.

The action group had to get approval from the Civil Aviation Authority to fly the balloon on land next to the proposed development site.
The group also encouraged people to take photographs from their homes and key locations to send in with objections.
Druim Ba Sustainable Energy has submitted a planning application for the project to the Scottish Government.
The deadline for comments is 22nd April.
Last week acclaimed author Katharine Stewart (96) added her voice to the campaign against the campaign.
Mrs Stewart, of Crown Drive, Inverness, used to live at Abriachan and has written several books on rural life “The character of the landscape would be altered forever,” she said.
