New air route between Inverness and Amsterdam
Inverness Courier: 16/05/11
A DIRECT and daily air service between Inverness and Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam will start in September.
Flybe will operate the route and travellers can book from tomorrow.
The announcement comes on the back of lenghty discussions between Highlands and Islands Airports Ltd and Flybe, with support and key funding from Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE).
"Securing a link to Europe's premier hub airport has been a long held aspiration of HIAL and the region," said Inglis Lyon, HIAL managing director. "The proposed multi-billion investments in renewables, University of the Highlands and Islands developments and the thriving tourism makets gives this route even greater strategic significance."
The Inverness to Schiphol service will provide seven flights per week during the summer months and six per week during the winter months.
The service, which will be officially launched at Inverness Airport tomorrow, will start operating on Monday, 5th September.
