Loch Ness Voluntary Payback Scheme

The Loch Ness Voluntary Payback Scheme is a ‘visitor payback’ scheme which will fund on-the-ground projects to help not only improve the visitor experience of Loch Ness but help to preserve the natural beauty of the area for future generations. We know that most visitors to Loch Ness almost certainly care for the environment and wild places of Britain. Visitors are also aware of the potential damage that tourism can inflict on the natural world, so it is with this in mind that we appeal to all local businesses and visitors alike to make a positive contribution towards its conservation, and to be recognised for this contribution. The scheme encourages a stronger sense of ownership and a greater commitment of care to the area.

The initial project for which the lion's share of funds will go, is the South Loch Ness Trail Project. This is an ambitious project which aims to connect up existing trails and build new trail and thus create one continuous trail for all types of users that extends from Fort Augustus the length of Loch Ness, to Inverness. South Loch Ness is ‘the wildside’, and when completed the trail will open up for visitors and locals alike to enjoy some of the most wild and beautiful landscape around Loch Ness.

We want to ‘tell the story of South Loch Ness’ along the trail through interpretative signage and it is for these elements of the project that all funds collected will be put. This is just a small start, there are many environmental projects around Loch Ness that will over time benefit from kind donations.

Help us to keep Loch Ness beautiful, a small donation will go a long way. If you are a visitor to the area and wish to make a contribution you can do so either on line when booking accommodation or tickets to an event in the area or by making a contribution when you visit/stay at one of our participating businesses - look for the window sticker "together let's care".

Participating accommodation businesses will simply offer you the option to make a donation of £1 when you settle your bill and visitor attractions 20p on their admission fee.

If you are an accommodation or event provider and would like more information about joining the scheme, please contact Frank Ellam at frank@visitlochness.com.
