South Loch Ness Heritage Group

The SLNHG was formed in 2003, and has been arranging public meetings and collecting material (mostly photographs) for nearly eight years now. We felt it was time to take stock, show you what we had been doing, and invite your input about the direction the Group should take in the future. We will have on display as much material as we can gather, including a slide show with many photographs, dating from the 1860s to the 21st century. We hope for a good discussion about the future activities of the Group.
Specifically, we have a couple of main issues to address:
1. Until recently, we have had three or four public meetings in each year, most of which have been well attended, but we have now covered most of the “headline” topics, and are finding it increasingly difficult to find speakers and subjects that can draw an audience. Do we a) reduce the number of meetings, b) reduce our expectation of attendance and have less mainstream topics, or c) .... well, c) is up to you!
2. The present management committee is largely unchanged since the beginning, and we feel that some new perspective is essential. We have all gained experience in many things, from book publishing to peat cutting, but two or three fresh faces are now necessary. Anybody with an interest in this sort of thing would find that they get out far more than they put in. Deep local knowledge is not needed, just enthusiasm.
If we do not find answers for these issues, the solution may be to put more emphasis on our website. ( www.southlochnessheritage.co.uk, for those that haven’t seen it. }
